Wrath of the Righteous Power Builds: the highest damage possible

For this Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous build, I will be sharing the highest damage-dealing build I’ve ever seen. It’s a martial build, and it’s also one for those interested in pursuing the Demon mythic path. This path is a very powerful one, and in fact one could build a great spell caster PC as well, but this time I’ll focus on the martial. Again, this is a build I got the idea for online and wanted to pass it on.

Cavaliers are outstanding melee combatants in the WotR video game. Mounted combat is much rewarded, cavaliers are the best at charging, and the Gendarme archetype in particular is great because of all the bonus feats we can get. If we add to that demonic rage and different demon aspects the build really becomes so powerful no enemy in the game can match it. By the way there is a non-demon version of this build utilizing Trickster. It’s not quite as powerful, but still very OP. For a list of changes to the cavalier class for the video game, click here. Check out my guide to rule changes and power builds here.

Build Progression

  1. Human Gendarme Cavalier, background Pickpocket. I will select human as the race, but the gendarme does get extra feats so there’s certainly room for another race if you desire. Even at level one this build can be doing a lot of damage. Early on go with glaives for weapons, as there are several good ones, and the Wide Sweep scythe in ch 2
    • Str 19 Dex 12 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 10  Cha 14 (Int 13 if going Trickster and want the wizard’s spell book). You have the option to dump Int or Wis and pump Dex or Con if you like. Dumping charisma is an option, but charisma does have good synergy with this build
    • Skills:  Mobility is the only essential one, the others are up to you
    • Feats:  Power Attack, Mounted Combat (for access to other mounted feats and to reduce the odds of your mount getting hit), Spirited Charge
    • Order of the Cockatrice, for the Steal Glory ability (remember the party is meant to focus on generating Attacks of Opportunity via Combat Reflexes and Seize the Moment)
    • Pet:  Horse of course, and black horse seems especially appropriate for demon
    • Deity:  needs to fall in the alignment range for Demon. Gorum seems fine, alignment can be any chaotic (if going Trickster, pick chaotic good)

3. Feats:  Cleave, Cleaving Finish

4. +Str every four levels, horse +Int to 3

5. Feat:  Combat Reflexes

6. Feat:  Outflank (remember your horse with Int 3 can get it too, so it’s always on)

7. Feat:  Shake it Off

9. Feats:  Improved Critical/Falchion or fauchard if you prefer, you just need exotic weapon proficiency to get it. Both have great crit threat ranges. Also there are no lances in the game. Secondly, Seize the Moment to capitalize on AoO’s. (Update:  also consider Back to Back as StM does not stack with Outflank anymore)

11. Feat:  Improved Initiative

12. Feat:  Weapon Focus/Falchion (helps qualify for Shatter Defenses)

13. At this point we already have the feats we really need. Indomitable Mount is a good choice, as is Toughness, Skill Focus Mobility, Hammer the Gap, whatever you want is fine. I chose Great Cleave on the way to Improved Cleaving Finish (If Trickster, from here on use the general progression from the skald guide)

15. Feats:  Shatter Defenses. This synergizes great with Frightful Aspect which your spell casters can get at this point. Also Improved Cleaving Finish

17. Again go whichever say you want here. Toughness is fine, as would Trample

18. Feat: Once again, up to you. Hammer the Gap is interesting, and you could definitely have the pounce ability at this point if you have a mercenary Skald who takes greater beast totem in your party

19. Feat:  Accomplished Sneak Attacker, because at this point you can have found the book Baphomet the Uncaged, and this feat will increase that. Feel free to take this earlier if you would like.

20. Feat:  Whatever you want.

Mythic Progression

  1. Close to the Abyss (gore will count toward attacks), Ever Ready (Last Stand if playing on Unfair)
  2. Mythic Power Attack
  3. Mythic Charge
  4. Mythic Critical Falchion. Aspect:  Kalavakus (free attacks when charging, stacks if you also have pounce)
  5. Mythical Beast. Aspect:  Incubus and Vavakia. Major Aspect:  Balor
  6. Mythic Improved Initiative. Aspect:  Schir. If you’d prefer the compulsion immunity of Succubus, take it instead of Incubus or Schir and combine it with Kalavakus instead
  7. Last Stand here if you didn’t take it at 1. (Inspirational Leader and Leading Strike can be taken by other characters, such as Seelah). Aspect:  Shadow Demon if you want, and whatever else you want
  8. Feats are up to you, same with aspects. Flawless Attacks are good, or Mythic Toughness also works
  9. Anything you want at this point. Always a Chance can be nice, or Unrelenting Assault maybe? Aspect can be anything
  10. Mythic Sneak Attacker is cool, and Aspect of Nocticula to share all rage powers, and Pazuzu

Equipment/Gear

Weapon:  Finnean the Talking Weapon is a great choice for brilliant energy alone. Early game get Jinx (this can be used throughout the entire game), Holy Blare and Touch of Mercy (and Finnean again) are obtainable in chapter 3, and the Rumbling Falchion in ch 4

  • Update:  since the emergence of the Gravesinger greataxe, it is a heavy contender for use as your primary weapon and best martial weapon in the game

Head:  Shy Lily’s Helmet

Neck:  Vellexia’s Magnifying Amulet

Goggles:  whatever you want really

Armor:  Full plate, especially mithral. Not that it’s a huge deal since your horse will take most attacks, and you can cast Mirror Image to protect yourself further

Chest:  whatever you want

Belt:  Strength/Constitution, ultimately leading to Mangling Frenzy

Gloves:  Fencer’s Gift, late game you can consider Areelu’s gloves

Boots:  For every build under the sun, Ronneck’s Sacrifice is what will go here…if you loving charging Boots of Stampede are also very good

Bracers:  Bracers of Abrupt Onslaught–you get sneak attack by reading Baphomet the Uncaged in chapter 5

Rings:  Ring of Guiding Star, Ring of Evasion

UPDATE:  The Seven Virtues of a True Ruler ring will increase your demonic rage uses by +5 per day, which is awesome. It does require The Last Sarkorians DLC

Cloak:  Cloak of Resistance

Consumables:  Jharsygax is cool, Lucky Dice, great metamagic rod if you like, extend metamagic rod is great for demon buffs

In combat it’s nice but not essential to enlarge you and your horse. Use demonic rage, aspect of kalavakus/schir/balor/incubus. Pounce adds on if you’re smart enough to have a skald in your party, and the fortune hex increases your chances of criticals. You want Crusader’s Edge on, Holy, Living Bane (from Lifebane mythic spell), etc. Charge away (use Challenge and Moment of Triumph) and annihilate everything in the game–and their buddies too with Cleaving Finish. I’m not kidding, I’ve seen this guy actually do 40k of damage on a charge! Don’t forget to buff your horse’s AC, which I’ve explained on a previous build.

That’s it for this one. I may do an Azata build, for those interested in building toward that path. There are some great options there as well. If any would like a spell caster build for Demon please leave a comment below.

  1. I’m new to CRPG and played two larian games only. This is too hardcore for me so I have been searching for days for my premade Taolynn Cavalier build. This is the only one clear and sound, and easy to understand even for a beginner like me. Thank you very much and keep your good work buddy.
