Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous news and update

Hello friends! I have news, released just today, regarding a new major update for Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. The upcoming patch–2.5–will be released ‘soon’, whatever that means. Hopefully this month? And there will be a Game of the Year edition release also, including all DLC except Visitors from Morta, which is a free download anyway.

UPDATE:  It released today, November 18th!

Anyway, before diving into details this is what the developers, Owlcat, have to say about it:

The game will continue to receive additional bug fixing updates, we will continue to accept your bug reports, and there might still be some QoL improvements in the future. However, we don’t have any more plans for new mechanics or story content after this update, so if you waited for the game to be complete — this is the time!

So other than big fixes, there will be no more DLC, no more archetypes or classes, no more story from now on. In their words, after this update the game will be complete.

What is included in this update? DRAGONS! Specifically the Gold Dragon mythic path, which many of us have found pretty disappointing. Here is what they are promising:

  • The Dragon has receives new spell effects and animations
  • Evil dragons (followers of the evil dragon god Dahak) boast an updated corrupted version of the portrait, updated scale color and texture, and their own alternative visuals for some of the spells. Your alignment also shifts to chaotic evil
  • The Gold Dragon received a unique weather effect in Drezen and a gorgeous new animation for the Sword of Valor at your fortress
  • The Gold Dragon has received a brand-new mythic spellbook with a total of 10 new spells, with followers of Dahak having their own, corrupted version of some. Here are the examples they give:
    • Dragon Might:  As a swift action increase your damage dealt by 50% for 1 round
    • Summon Dragon:  Summon 1d3+1 medium silver dragons (or 1d3+1 medium black dragons if you have vowed to serve Dahak)
    • Thousand Bites:  While in the form of a Gold Dragon, as a swift action, gain 3 additional attacks for 1 minute. These attacks stack with the bonus attacks from haste and other effects
    • Dragon Wrath:  Blast your enemies with rays of focused dragon energy. You fire one ray for every six caster levels you have (up to a max of 3 rays at 18th level) at every enemy within a 25-foot radius. Each ray requires a ranged touch attack to hit and deals 1d6 points of damage per caster level. Half of the damage is fire damage, but the other half is holy or unholy power and not subject to fire resistance
  • New mythic features including the following:
    • Annihilating Breath:  Your breath annihilates living foes. Living enemies struck by your breath take additional negative energy damage equal to your breath damage (a fort save against the DC of your breath halves the dmg)
    • Mind-Clearing Breath:  Your breath dispels all mind-affecting effects from allies in the area. You also dispel all mind-affecting effects from enemies struck by your breath (including effects applied by your allies while affected by domination or charm effects)
    • Empowered Breath:  Your breath damage increases by a number of damage dice equal to your mythic rank
    • Rejuvenating Breath:  Your breath heals allies in the area. The amount of damage healed is equal to your breath damage
  • New domain and blessing:
    • Scalykind is finally included
      • Domain abilities include Venomous Stare (an AoE gaze attack for dmg and fascination effect) and Scalykind Companion (at 4th lvl gain a monitor lizard or velociraptor at your class level -2)
      • Blessing abilities include Scaly Touch (1 ally gains +1 enhancement to natural AC scaling every 5 leves) and Serpent Fang (at 10th lvl gain 1d4 venomous bite atk that causes Con dmg)
  • Improvement and rebalance:  they will change some existing spells so they can either be accessed earlier or get a damage upgrade, alternating damage types, and reducing or removing cooldowns
  • Narrative Updates, including two new dragon-themed religions, Apsu and Dahak (good and evil dragon gods)
    • There are “two new story beats… where their dragons’ wisdom of millennia has a chance to make two certain well-known characters take an unexpected turn to the path of good and redemption. This will be reflected in the epilogue slides”

I was pretty excited about this and I hope those of us that like the idea of the Gold Dragon mythic path but have been disappointed with the reality will have new things to look forward to. Find those old save points and get ready to revisit them!
